Yes — from the first instrument to the first concerto. Beginner work in this studio is deliberately slow: posture, bow hold, and open strings that sound the way a string is supposed to sound. Most beginners who stay with that foundation are playing real repertoire within two terms.
02. How do online lessons work?
A scheduled weekly call with two cameras where possible — one on you, one on the instrument — plus a written practice plan after each session, and video exchanges between lessons when you are stuck. Students on the Essential Excerpts membership get live Zoom calls with me every other week as well.
03. What should I prepare for a trial lesson?
Two pieces you know well and one you are struggling with, at whatever tempo you can honestly play them. I want to hear the scale routine you currently use, if you have one. Nothing polished — I am looking for the actual, not the best day.
04. Do you help with college and audition paperwork?
Yes. Through the Institute for College Readiness we build the audition programme, shortlist schools and teachers, and prepare the prescreening recordings. Preparing students for college auditions, and helping them understand how to be a successful student, is my other passion.
